Databases exist in pretty much every organisation today – they’re everywhere – you simply can’t perform and compete without one. Regardless of organization size and complexity, database analysts and administrators work tirelessly to manage the data and assist stakeholders in extracting the business value the database provides – from competitive intelligence, to driving strategic initiatives.
Nutanix recently commissioned IDC to write an InfoBrief * to discuss the challenges and complexities of managing databases. The results were quite eye opening:
-75% of relational database management system deployments are in private cloud
-Database services are the #1 use case for public cloud and #2 for hybrid cloud
-73% of organizations have different database management processes for on-prem vs. cloud deployments
-63% of organizations believe common database management across deployments would be “very” or “extremely” beneficial
The data landscape is evolving and growing exponentially, requiring organizations to find new ways to streamline and simplify their database estate management. The traditional methods of database management are manual, slow, complex, and expensive.
Managing IT complexity demands significant process overhead for executing even basic tasks, such as adding additional capacity or upgrading software—adding unwanted friction to IT operations and slowing the business. Research shows that half of data management implementations use both on-premises and cloud environments, furthering database sprawl and management complexity.

In the ideal digital world, multiple workloads would share the same infrastructure without friction, so you’d be able to achieve your goals quickly and efficiently. Nutanix eliminates the pain points of legacy IT operations that lead to silos of infrastructure. Plus, Nutanix provides a public cloud experience in a software-defined approach that allows you to simplify and become more agile while utilizing a single platform for all workloads across private, public, and hybrid cloud deployments.
